All the pros and cons
can be put together and compared, but the one factor that probably and mostly
outweighs all the other factors is the resale value of the car. Car is
considered to be a durable good, which means, a person that spends or invest
money in car will always and more likely to buy a car that ensures minimum
depreciation of the persons’ cash value. This means that the person would
prefer that his older 600cc car should be of enough value in a future time
period when he decides to switch from a 600cc to a 1000cc car. Again, he would
prefer that his 1000cc car should be a high value in the future time period
when he wishes to switch from a 1000cc to a 1300cc car. Such a trend in the
buyers can be seen all around the year and this is probably the one and only
factor that outweighs all other factors combined. Fortunately to say, or
unfortunately, the local cars built in the country do outweigh the Japanese
cars in terms of their re-sale value. The Japanese cars fall way behind the
locally manufactured cars in this respect. Because at the end, for a typical
Pakistani buyer, after all the options available are exhausted, this is the
only factor that triggers his decision to either buy the car or pass on to
another one.
The side of the buyers is much different than the side of the
suppliers. To say this means that the car producers think differently than what
the consumers think. The main motive of any organization in today’s society is
to make profit. If the company is not selling something from an ad they ran on
Facebook, the amount of money spent on that ad which was unable to generate
another sale to the company, is an amount wasted. Similarly, the same goes for
the producers who produces or sell cars in the country. Same was said by one of
the significant member of the PakWheels community, Adnan Gillani, who said that
the customers want local cars in comparison to the imported ones. He said that
the customers prefer the local made cars simply because of the fact that they
are unused, their suspension is designed for the road in Pakistan, they have
higher re-sale value. But, when asked about the supplier or the company’s side
of the equation, he added that the company wants both the cars. Not just for
the sake of profit but for the sake of competition.
