The Cholistan Jeep Rally

I belong to a village named Hasalpur in bahawalphur, which is located next to Cholistan which is one of the biggest deserts in Asia. I was always interested in jeeps(not the brand Jeep but all Four wheel off-road vehicles), and when I came to know that there was the biggest jeep rally of Pakistan being held close to my village so I planned my trip according to the rally. The rally was set to start on the 13th of February so I packed my bags and started my long awaited journey. The rally initiated near the Derawar Fort in Bahawalpur which in my opinion is a place with lots of cultural heritage. Around 85 drivers and teams from all over Pakistan participated and almost 100,000 visitors were there to witness the action first hand, this year I was very thrilled to be a part of this.

The route of the rally was comprised with difficult obstacles and runs over a total of 218 kilometers. From the view of an average jeep enthusiast I have to say that at the start of the event, the atmosphere, the crowd, the engines, the cars, the adrenaline it all adds up to a feeling which is very hard to describe. At the start of the event people from different teams and cars put up camp and start to ready their cars for what is to come later on. There are eight different classes of cars that take part in this rally and different types of enthusiasts from all over the country are here to enjoy this event that takes part once a year. This year things went a little differently a new class of women drivers was introduced, this being the first year two female drivers took part, and it was great to see the women of Pakistan taking part in something that they were interested in. when the race started there was nothing much to see, when the drivers leave the starting line its them and the open desert, so back at camp there was a lot of entertainment for the audiences and the drivers themselves. The days in the deserts are very hot and the nights are cold, but the audiences go to attend the rally and are least bothered with it.

The Cholistan Rally 2016 was an event to experience, the audiences that were there to experience the event had only great things to say about it, and everyone hoped they would be again next year with a bigger and better event than ever before. For me, all the horsepower, fast driving, crashes, the entertainment added up to be one of the best experiences of my life. After experiencing everything in these few days I am motivated about running the rally myself someday. The event was one to experience and I must say that Pakistan tourism Development Corporation does a great job in organizing the event every year to attract tourists.
